Hard Boiled Fun

March 22, 2008

I haven’t dyed Easter eggs since I was a kid. Kelly and I decided it might be a fun way to spend a few hours and we were right.  After dinner tonight we boiled the eggs and set them in an ice water bath to cool. Once dried and ready, I laid them out on the table while  we got the dye prepared.

I had purchased two different packages, each with its own method. One of them was the standard “dunk the eggs in the dye” method.

The other included a wax pencil to draw on the eggs first, then you put drops of dye in the little plastic bags which you then slopped the egg around in, mixing the colours as you choose.

We both had a great time, and I’m pretty pleased with our creations. It will almost be a shame to eat them tomorrow.

Happy Easter Everyone!!

Update:

This morning Kelly played Easter bunny and hid 6 of the twelve eggs for me to find before breakfast. Again, I hadn’t done this since I was a kid, and at first I was frustrated. It felt like it does when I’m looking for my keys. But after spotting the first bright yellow egg carefully placed amongst the everyday items in the family room, the fun aspect came back to me. I then had a blast looking for the rest, and was somewhat disappointed when I had found the last one. On the other hand, I was hungry. Hope you are all enjoying the day.

Oh what fun. I actually did this a bit as a child and then again as a young mother with my kids. I sort of doubt my daughter is carrying on the tradition as her home is more Jewish than mine was then. But it is a fun part of this holiday.
Glad you and Kelly got to enjoy it. Did you hide the eggs for anyone to hunt for?

I love the picture of the colored shells! Nummy! And so glad you got into the spirit of the hunt! Did Kelly wear big long rabbit ears? LOL
    Hugs to you both.
Fred applied for his passport this week. We really are coming! 😉

I went camping with friends over the weekend and we had an easter egg hunt with plastic eggs. And ya know what, it was a blast! 🙂 I totally understand. Glad you guys had such fun with eggs!

My crew had a blast this morning – The Easter Bunny had been busy at our house.

They conceded to just 2 candies before breakfast, then more after. Funny ducklings!

Our big trick is to keep all the animals away from the candy. We keep them locked down all night to prevent egg theft.
