Have you ever spotted a bird flying around inside your grocery store and worried about it for hours, wondering how the poor thing was going to get out and what it would eat in the mean time?
Well, I was just in the nearby Sobeys, and while I didn’t see a bird inside the store, I’m fairly certain there is one.
This apple was just sitting there with a deep hole in it. I was puzzled for a second, wondering how someone managed to take such a weird bite out of it. Then I figured it out. You can’t see it in the picture, but there is apple juice and bits splattered on the Plexiglas right in front of the apple. Some smart bird must be trapped in the store, and has figured out that at night, all the people are gone, and there’s all kinds of stuff to eat. And it’s FREE!! As I went back out into the frigid weather with my purchases, I wondered if that bird was really trapped at all, or it was just really smart and figured out how to survive inside a nice warm store.
Some fly south for the winter, and some are smart enough to time it just right and fly *in* for the winter!
Great use of your powers of observation, Syl!
There is a little bird that lives in our local grocery store. He hangs out along a far window at the end of the frozen food section, near the plants and flowers. Once while we were there, a stocker was filling the freezer, and he and the bird would whistle back and forth at each other. We got to talking, and he said the bird has been there for quite a while, and always comes out when he’s working to peep at him and will follow him up and down the aisle as he works, and they peep back and forth to each other the whole time. It’s really quite cute.
Smart bird…has a lesson for all of us in these hard economic times.
times get harder we get ourselves locked in at the grocery store at night and eat to our hearts content…leave in the morning…return before closing…tweet tweet
