Momma Squirrel
Two nights ago, Kelly was here and was entertained by a female grey squirrel who was quite excited to be fed peanuts. Kelly posted a picture of it here on her blog.
We decided that this little cutie was a momma, as she was clearly a female and would scamper off very quickly with the peanuts, always in the same direction, be gone for a few minutes, and then return for more. We thought she must be feeding her babies. We aren’t experts, but we liked that story and that’s what we’re going with.
Last night, Kelly was also here and spent some more time visiting with momma squirrel when she came begging right on schedule, immediately after supper.
Tonight however, Kelly was not here. What’s a momma squirrel to do?
She peeked in the window, looking towards her right to see if Kelly was there on the sofa.
She peeked in the window, looking to her left to see if Kelly was there near the TV. She was not deterred by the mayfly near her face.
She hung off the brick wall and peeked in through the patio door to see if Kelly was in the kitchen area.
Finally I opened the bag of peanuts and threw out a large handful. I couldn’t get any good pictures of her with the nuts, she was so qick that I kept missing the shot. But trust me, she was very pleased, although I think she missed Kelly. When she was done she relaxed for a bit on our old Muskoka chair and kept an eye out for Kelly a little while longer.
Aw, that’s a very clever way of making sure I visit you every single evening! Let’s just hope your squirrel-hating neighbour doesn’t live trap her and relocate her.
He’s got his trap up high, I can see it. I keep checking it and if I see a squirrel in there we will try to release it before it get’s relocated.
Cute! I bet you’d like to live capture Kelly and relocate HER! LOL
Great squirrel shots!!!!
This is very, very sweet. xo, O
